ERP visits Waterberg Welfare Society

ERP visits Waterberg Welfare Society

On Wednesday 24th, some members from ERP in South Africa had a site visit to the Waterberg Welfare Society, right in the heart of the Waterberg in Limpopo. This visit was to gain an overview of the current site and activities for the existing project and future potential initiatives through ERP. Joining on the trip were our colleagues from iLab and Got Game who are ERP partners providing customized building options and who we work with on setting up our HUBS. Our South African ERP ambassador, Clement Maosa also came through and he had a radio interview with Waterburg Waves, which is an ERP funded project. He also gave a motivational talk to the youth at the centre. Clement is an actor and celebrity in South Africa, who is using his status to positively influence youth throughout the country. We are delighted to have him   as one of our star ERP ambassadors in South Africa.

ERP engages local community next to game reserve

ERP engages local community next to game reserve

Over the next few months, ERP will be spending time in Kekana Gardens, adjacent to Dinokeng Game Reserve were are planning on poverty alleviation interventions to benefit the local communities. This is in line with the ERP strategy, where the conservation of elephants and rhinos is implemented together with poverty alleviation strategies that target communities next to these conservation areas. In this instance, our community intervention has been brought about by our involvement within the Dinokeng Game Reserve, thereby creating a direct nexus to conservation of elephants and rhinos. There is a great deal of impact we can bring to this community, from educational interventions in the local schools to the beeline fencing, waste management right through to making a difference in the lives of orphans within the community. Already, we have trained 10 unemployed youth in the beeline fencing intervention. We will be adding more updates in the days to come.
